Roky Erickson "Don't Slander Me" cassette tape

Possibly the least weird solo album from one of the most beautifully weird and tortured (quite literally) geniuses of the late 60s. Following years of regression and treatment and half steps, the Texas legend started picking up some pieces while he was obsessing over the U.S. mail. Friends and patrons got him into an actual studio where he recorded actual songs — some new and some old. Amazingly, all of his greatness shines through. He sounds like Buddy Holly “Starry Eyes”), like a 60s casualty (“Burn the Flames”) and like his own darn self (“Bermuda”). Even after all the carnage, he always had a way with a tune. There are only a few good Roky solo albums, but this is a very good one.
